“Blind” Dave Heeley

Charity Ambassador

West Bromwich born “Blind” Dave Heeley, is a charity fundraiser, motivational speaker and marathon man extraordinaire. Heeley is the only blind man to have ever completed 7 Marathons on 7 Continents in 7 Days.

His self penned autobiography “From Light To Dark” is due for release in February 2016.

Born with a disease called Retinitis Pigments (RP) Dave Heeley was diagnosed with the illness at the age of ten and completely lost  sight in both eyes as he became a teenager. Despite his blindness, Dave Heeley has dedicated his life to raising money for charity and being a motivational speaker to both able bodied and disabled people. To date he has raised over £500,000 for various charities and has completed numerous challenges and raised money to support national and international charities including UNICEF, Guide Dogs For The Blind and Macmillan Cancer Support.

In 2014, he was awarded the Point Of Light award by Prime Minister David Cameron which honours and recognises outstanding individuals who are making a difference in their community and inspiring others. The Prime Minister said of his award “Dave has completed some truly incredible physical feats sacrificing thousands of hours of his personal time to raise money for good causes, I’m delighted to award Dave the UK’s 80th Point Of Light”.  In the same year National Express West Midlands named a bus in Dave’s honour.

In April 2015, Dave completed the Marathon Des Sables running 160 miles through the Sahara Desert, raising money for West Bromwich Albion Football Club’s charitable arm, The Albion Foundation, which provides educational and sporting opportunities to young people.
