Builder's Golf Event Aids Air Ambulance

Tuesday 19th September 2023

Halesowen-based housebuilder, Barratt Homes West Midlands raised nearly £20,000 at a golf tournament for its charity of the year, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Altogether, over 90 members of Barratt Homes staff and sub-contractors organised and participated in the competition, and the eventual winner was a team from Fisher Carpentry. A total of £19,826.71 was raised on the day for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity covers six counties, including the West Midlands. The pre-hospital emergency service is responsible for the operation and provision of three air ambulance helicopters and a fleet of critical care cars. Since its inception in 1991, the charity has responded to more than 72,000 missions.

It requires £13-14 million per year to maintain its daily operations and the enhanced lifesaving equipment and medication available on-board.

Jon Cottrell, senior partnerships executive for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “We rely solely on the generous donations of local people and businesses to maintain our vital service. A huge well done to everybody involved in the golf tournament. The event has raised the equivalent of 12 lifesaving missions, five by air ambulance and seven by critical care car. Thank you to Barratt Homes for your significant contribution from what was a really successful event!”

The leading developer’s golf tournament was held at Redditch Golf Club, with each participating member playing a total of 18 holes.

Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We are delighted that we were able to organise this golf tournament to raise money for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

“Having been staunch supporters of the fantastic cause for years, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has now been named our charity of the year for 2023. Few organisations are more deserving, and we look forward to working with them further throughout the year.”
