Midlands Air Ambulance Charity Receives Record Shortlist At Industry Awards

Thursday 26th October 2023

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s team of lifesaving critical care crews and hardworking fundraising team have received a record number of shortlisted entries for air ambulance industry specific awards.

The Air Ambulances UK Awards of Excellence has been running for more than ten years and celebrates best practice across the air ambulance sector in the UK. The awards night   is set to take place on Thursday 30th November 2023 in Reading, Berkshire.  Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is hopeful in four categories which it has been shortlisted for. These are:

  • Charity Staff Member of the Year Award: Debbie Briden, grants and trusts manager for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity from Northfield, in the West Midlands has been shortlisted for exceeding fundraising income targets and helping several key projects come to fruition.
  • Doctor of the Year: Dr David Cooper, pre-hospital emergency medicine doctor from Shropshire The nomination came after a recent case where Dr Cooper diagnosed a patient with a life-threatening abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) instead of the head, neck or back injury that was first suspected. This early diagnosis undoubtedly helped to save the man’s life.
  • Innovation of the Year: Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s innovation process has been shortlisted. Since becoming clinically independent in April 2022, the lifesaving emergency service has made many innovations to its clinical and non-clinical operations. All these innovations and ideas for change have been suggested by charity staff and aircrew to improve and futureproof its lifesaving service to help give the best patient care possible.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Ian Roberts, the charity’s CQC registered manager from Bewdley, Worcestershire, whose 40-year ambulance career has seen him play a key role with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity for 20 years.

Each year hundreds of colleagues from across the air ambulance community attend a conference, followed by the Awards of Excellence ceremony. It is the one opportunity in the year where the air ambulance community comes together for a day of debate, learning, sharing of best practice, research, and celebration.

Hanna Sebright, chief executive officer for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “I speak on behalf of the whole charity team when I say that we are immensely proud of all of the nominated individuals, teams and processes we put forward for the Air Ambulances UK Awards of Excellence.

“We were delighted to have been shortlisted in a number of categories and are backing each of our team members, Dr Cooper, Debbie and Ian.”
