A hole in one

Great Barr Golf Club, Birmingham, came to the end of an enjoyable year of fundraising for Midlands Air Ambulance this month.

The local golf club named Midlands Air Ambulance as its Charity of the Year for the golfing season of March 2009 to March 2010.

On the 12 May at Cosford Air Base last year’s Captain Mike Aldridge and Lady Captain Marjorie Crowe ended their year of captaincy by handing over £5,000 to the Charity.

Great Barr Golf Club raised the money through a number of events including auctions, raffles and even a sponsored walk in Sutton Park.

One Great Barr member, Chris Barnes, raised several hundred pounds by playing four golf courses - Great Barr, Walsall, Bloxwich and Sandwell Park - in just one day!

The decision to name Midlands Air Ambulance the club’s charity of the year was a response to the air ambulance attending incidents at Great Barr Golf Course three times in recent years.

Midlands Air Ambulance is delighted at the support Great Barr Golf Club has shown the Charity over the past year and would like to say a big thank you to last year’s Captains Mike Aldridge and Marjorie Crowe.

Missions completed since 1991: 50,563 | On average we airlift a child every four days | Road traffic collisions make up around 35% of the incidents we attend | The service airlifts on average four horse riders each week.
