Thousands raised on opening day as shelves are cleared and shoppers queue outside!

The launch of the charity’s first shop has been hailed a ‘phenomenal success’ after hundreds of supporters spent thousands of pounds on the first day.

Large crowds gathered at New Street, Wellington, last Friday (7th Dec 2012) for the official unveiling and ribbon cutting by the Mayor of Wellington, Councillor Frank Burns.

Joined by Hanna Sebright CEO, aircrew, fundraisers and volunteers, Cllr Frank Burns said; "I am delighted to unveil this shop to the local community and I hope you will all join me in offering your full support to this invaluable charity, which relies on our generosity to continue to save lives."

Within minutes of the doors being opened eager shoppers had cleared the Christmas themed window display and sold signs were slapped on the majority of furniture and large goods.

MAAC, the official Mascot, greeted shoppers, while Santa handed out mince pies. By 5pm, supporters had snapped up thousands of pounds worth of goods and volunteers celebrated the charity's latest milestone and final celebration of the 21stanniversary year.

Hanna Sebright, CEO, said; "The charity selected Wellington for its first shop as it represents the roots of the Charity and the strong community ties that remain in place after 21 years. This fantastic opportunity to launch a high street shop will enable the charity to continue to raise vital funding. Donations from shop sales will make a significant contribution to the £6 million needed each year to keep the lifesaving service operational."

Jason Levy, Fundraising Director for MAAC said; "For the last 21 years Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has been saving lives in the Shropshire area, and this has only been possible thanks to the unfaltering support of the local community. The shop will also be a place in which the local public can meet and learn more about the life saving service provided."
