Christmas Wrapped Up By Volunteers!

Shoppers in Telford are in for a treat next week when a band of MAAC volunteers will wrap their Christmas presents and help to raise money for charity at the same time.

We launched our appeal this week for people to donate Christmas wrapping paper, both decorative and plain, which will be used to wrap presents by talented volunteers at a stall outside the Debenhams store in Telford Shopping Centre from Monday (2nd December).

First to make a donation to help launch the appeal was Rachel Owen, administration assistant at Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, in Telford, who said: “This is a great idea to save time and effort when Christmas shopping and at the same time help to raise money for this very worthwhile cause.”

MAAC fundraising manager ,Maria Jones, commented: “We will have around half a dozen people on hand during normal shopping hours from Monday, 2nd December until Sunday 8th December and this is a great way for people to buy their gifts and then get them wrapped straight away - a real bonus when buying Children’s presents which need to be hidden from view.

“This week long service is our main fundraising event for Christmas and last year we raised a great deal of money as people are asked to donate a minimum of £1 for which they get their gifts perfectly wrapped in a paper of their choice, complete with a bow and greetings card.

“Our teams of men and women volunteers are not fazed by any unusually shaped item and last year managed to neatly wrap a snow shovel, large teapot and giant soft toy Giraffe!

“Donations of wrapping paper can be made at the Chamber’s offices at Trevithick House on Stafford Park, or to our own charity shop in Wellington, and we look forward to welcoming shoppers to our stand next week.”

Missions completed since 1991: 50,563 | On average we airlift a child every four days | Road traffic collisions make up around 35% of the incidents we attend | The service airlifts on average four horse riders each week.
