Sporting Heroes Champion MAAC!

Some of the Midlands’ finest Olympians, Paralympians and sporting heroes past and present are the latest high profile sporting celebrities to be appointed as our ambassadors.

Eight sporting heroes; Neil Back MBE, Jane Sixsmith MBE, Richy Balshaw, Mickey Bushell MBE, Zac Purchase MBE, Ryan Cockbill, David Stone MBE, and Katrina Hart are the latest recruits to be bestowed ambassador roles from the worlds of rugby, hockey, athletics and equestrianism.

The sporting stars will support the charity with its national and local fundraising and awareness campaigns through the medium of their respective sports and the wider general public. The charity and its cause have a direct relevance to each of the sporting greats who were either born or train in the region and have decided to support the lifesaving work of the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Commenting on his new role England International Rugby legend and former England and Leicester Tigers Captain Neil Back MBE said

”I am truly honoured and delighted to be able to support the work of an incredible charity and its lifesaving work. Injuries sustained on the rugby pitch can often be life threatening and serious due to the physical nature of rugby being a contact sport. The charity often attends to incidents where players have serious head, neck and spinal trauma. It is absolutely vital that these types of injuries receive the fastest possible medical care.  It’s vitally important that we help raise awareness of the incredible work of the Midlands Air Ambulance through the sport of rugby and the wider communities.”

Paralympian Mickey Bushell MBE the T53 British & European Record Holder 100m,200m,400m,800m (wheelchair) and London 2012 Gold & Silver Medalist said;

“I am honoured to be playing a small part in supporting the incredible lifesaving work of the Midlands Air Ambulance. Sporting injuries account for a high proportion of calls outs for the charity and as sportsman in the region I felt compelled to support the charity. I am delighted to be supporting the work of the charity alongside my good friend and fellow Paralympian Ricky Balshaw. It is vital that we ALL support our local air ambulance service which relies solely on public donations.”

The charity now has 17 celebrity ambassadors and supporters that include high profile stars including TV Presenter & Top Gear host Richard Hammond and his wife Mindy Hammond, professional rugby players Mike Tindall MBE (England & Gloucester) and Andy Goode (England & Wasps), London 2012 equestrian gold medalists Carl Hester MBE, Nick Skelton MBE and ten times Paralympian gold medalist Lee Pearson MBE OBE CBE, the actor & writer John Challis (Only Fools & Horses) and film actor James Phelps  (Harry Potter).

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity chief executive, Hanna Sebright said, “I am delighted and honoured on behalf of the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity to welcome so many remarkable Olympians, Paralympians and sporting heroes to help support our cause. The profile and awareness that they can individually and collectively bring to the charity is invaluable and one for which we are truly grateful.”
