Tony Roach - A Bikers story

“I can’t speak highly enough of the emergency services and especially the Air Ambulance for what they did for me on that day.” said keen biker Tony Roach from Telford in Shropshire.

In April 2009, Tony was riding his motorcycle on an estate perimeter road when he came across a queue of stationary traffic waiting for some temporary traffic lights to change to green. Tony manoeuvred his bike alongside the stationary vehicles towards the front of the queue.  As he approached the traffic lights, a car driver decided to make a U-turn out of the queue, resulting in the car and bike colliding.

The Emergency Services, including the Midlands Air Ambulance, were on scene within minutes of the accident. Tony was treated for a serious leg injury and was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.

“The emergency services were on scene within minutes of the incident and I will always be grateful for the care and attention they gave me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t admire the view from the helicopter as we flew to Birmingham, but I have recently visited the air base at Cosford to thank them for what they did for me.”

Tony Roach is a member of the Oddballs Motorcycle Club from Wellington in Telford. The bikers are big supporters of Midlands Air Ambulance having donated over £7,000 to the Charity since 2002. The club continues to hold events and open days to raise funds for the Charity.
