A Truckers story
Speaking about his traumatic experience, Mr Reeves said:
“I cannot remember a great deal of the accident, but I now know I was extremely lucky to survive. I was trapped in my cab and later airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. I’ve never been in a helicopter in my life and the one time it happens, I don’t remember anything about it”.
Mr Reeves is full of praise for the work of the emergency services, particularly the flight crew who worked so hard to stabilise his condition and get him to hospital so quickly.
Thomas Reeves from Redditch in Worcestershire was traveling along the M42 in July 2007, when his lorry was involved in a multi-vehicle accident. Mr Reeves was trapped in the wreckage and received serious leg, chest and head injuries.
| The Midlands Air Ambulance based at Tatenhill Airfield in Staffordshire was scrambled to the scene of the incident and Paramedic Ian Walley and Dr Mark Nash were quickly on scene to treat Mr Reeves as he lay injured and trapped in the cab of his lorry. Mr Reeves was eventually airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham, where he made a steady recovery from his ordeal. On his release from hospital, Mr Reeves made a point of meeting the crew who came to his rescue on that day and Thomas was also a guest at the 18th birthday celebrations of Midlands Air Ambulance in May 2009. |
