The Rotary Club of Stonehouse, along with other Rotarian colleagues, took to the supermarkets and streets to collect donations for five charities including Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, throughout the month of December, in all weathers.

For many years, Santa dusts off his sturdy motorised sled and his helpers drive him around in the daytime and in the evening in the build-up to Christmas, to support local charities, and this year, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity was chosen by the Rotarians to benefit from the money collected by the generous people of Stonehouse and surrounding areas in Gloucestershire.

Midlands Air Ambulance is supported by The Rotary Club of Stonehouse as they recognise the work that is done, primarily from their local airbase at Strensham, to help save lives in the Golden Hour in the county.

Each time the air ambulance undertakes a mission which usually lasts two to three hours,  it costs  around  £2,500, meaning in excess of £6.5 million is needed each year to keep the three air ambulances in Cosford, Tattenhall and Strensham operational. This is all donated entirely by the public, national and local businesses and legacies - four in ten of those we help who have been injured or need urgent medical intervention, fund us by gifts in their wills. That is why it regards the real ‘helicopter heroes’ as not only the flight and medic crews, but those often unsung ground heroes the fundraisers.

Bryan Webster, PR Committee member of Stonehouse Rotary Club kindly says: “Keep up the good work and good luck with your fund raising.

Members of the Club invited Regional Fundraising Manager for Gloucestershire, Susie Godwin, to attend this joyful evening.  A lovely supper was served by The George Inn at Frocester, followed by speeches from all the recipients of the cheques.

Susie was delighted to receive a cheque for £1000 in support of Midlands Air Ambulance, and thanked everyone for their hard work and dedication, over the many years that Stonehouse Rotary have been donating so much of their time and efforts to make the lives of others easier.

Rotarians come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world. Long may they continue and flourish.
