What we do
Midlands Air Ambulance (formerly known as County Air Ambulance) has been saving lives since 1991 and has now flown more than 30,000 missions. The Charity has an unrivalled reputation as a ‘life saver’, serving communities across six counties of the Midlands and Welsh border region.
Our three Eurocopter 135 aircraft carry a crew of three – (Pilot, two Paramedics or a Flight Doctor and Paramedic). The helicopter also carries full life-support medical equipment.
It is general accepted that the first hour after an accident is a crucial time for any patient. It is referred to as the 'Golden Hour'.
If a patient reaches hospital during those first 60 minutes the chances of survival are greatly increased. That’s why the rapid response of an Air Ambulance is so vital in an emergency situation. The maximum flying time to the nearest hospital from anywhere in the region is less than 15 minutes.
All this is only possible thanks to the generosity of the public whose fundraising ensures the service continues to fly.
