Working morning, noon and night, Lynne Beckett is Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s internet fundraising phenomenon.
Seven days a week, 52 weeks a year, Lynne is sourcing goods, packing and liaising online, using the auction site eBay, as she raises funds for Midlands Air Ambulance.
So remarkable is her dedication that Lynne’s home, in the Worcestershire town of Stourport-on-Severn resembles a Post Office sorting room.
Since former nurse Lynne starting fundraising in 2009 she has raised an incredible £125,000 and barely a week passes by without one of our grateful staff hearing of another sizeable donation - a feat that has been recognised by eBay, who presented her with a certificate as one of its best charity sellers.
Lynne, who lives with husband Tim, and hundreds of boxes, decided to support us after seeing first-hand some of the hundreds of lives we save each year.
“I worked as a scrub nurse at Kidderminster Hospital and saw many people go home to their families who wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for Midlands Air Ambulance,” she says. “Also as a charity that covers the area I live in, I could think of no better cause.”
Due to health problems Lynne had to take early retirement as a nurse, but the medical profession’s loss has certainly been our gain.
“I needed to do something to fill my time and I just started finding items to auction on eBay and it has grown from there,” adds the 44-year-old.
And now the operation is such that she works in excess of 12 hours a day, every day, scouring the region for Midlands Air Ambulance, frequently travelling all over her home county and beyond in her Fiat, and frequently husband Tim and her Mum and Dad help too with all the packing.
“Craft-related items and children’s toys are extremely popular,” she says. “I am also finding that there are so many good people out there who are supporting me online and I’m so grateful to them.”
Her popularity has spread to the local Post Office, who see her every day as she sends her packages the length and breadth of Britain.
“I have got to know everyone at the Post Office really well,” she adds. “They joke to me about what I’m sending out and have even had coffee with them.”
And backed by Tim the fundraising looks set to continue for many more years to come!
“Tim doesn’t mind at all,” she adds. “He knows how passionate I am about this and he has said he doesn’t even mind falling over boxes, so if it’s ok with him then it is with me. I love helping Midlands Air Ambulance and I just ask everyone to see what they have at home that could help me to help them.”
