Our purpose-built education facility features clinical skills facilities as well as an immersive interactive room so we really can immerse you with the sights and smells! of the prehospital environment.

Our training courses are designed to develop your critical care skills, knowledge and performance.

We take a staged approach to training, where a combination of taught sessions is delivered alongside high-quality skills and simulation all designed to give you the skills and confidence to perform when you need to most.

Our simulation training will immerse you within different prehospital environments and allow you to explore your capabilities in a safe and supportive environment.

We have a range of courses available suitable for different levels of training and experience so you can find the right course for you to develop your clinical competence.

We also offer a bespoke service to organizations looking for the perfect fit for the training and development of their teams, including human factors, clinical skills, and simulation consolidation.

Whether you're looking to fulfil a workplace requirement, enhance knowledge or skills, our comprehensive range of courses is designed to meet your needs.

All our courses are delivered by experienced healthcare professionals.

Our training courses are available in two categories:

Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM)  Courses  - these courses are designed for those working in enhanced care roles.

Ideal for supporting those undertaking FIMC, DipIMC and Advanced practice courses or working in a enhanced care setting

 

Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM)  Assist Courses  - these courses are designed for those wanting to develop knowledge and skills around pre hospital care.

Ideal support for paramedics or student paramedics or those wishing to pursue a career in enhanced pre-hospital care.

 

PHEM courses

Surgical skills (1 day £350 per person, inc lunch) An interactive study day looking at the principles and application of surgical skills in the pre hospital environment. Including:- Theory sessions, Before you start cutting’, Resuscitative thoracotomy - when and how, Resuscitative hysterotomy when and how. Practice and Simulation Sessions, Front of neck access, Chest injury management, Amputation and nerve blocks, Resuscitative thoracotomy

Transfer and retrieval (1 day £300 per person, inc lunch) Designed to Support FIMC exam preparation. Course covers: Why transfers are needed, Enacting a safe transfer, Transfer co-ordination, Common pitfalls

Ultrasound for hospital (1 day £300 per person, inc lunch) This skills based course is designed to introduce the pre hospital practitioner or emergency practitioner to ultrasound scanning. Using butterfly ultrasound this course will define ‘normal’ by scanning real volunteers. Skills stations and case discussions will explore ‘abnormal’

 

Obstetrics and Neonatal Care (1 day £300 per person, inc lunch) Coming soon for 2024

 

PHEM Assist Courses

HEMS awareness (3 hours £10 per person) This evening session is designed to give healthcare professionals (or healthcare students) the opportunity to visit the MAAC airbase, meet members of the clinical team, and discuss prehospital care. The evening will include, Tour of the facilities, Briefing - who we are and what we do, Q&A with members of the team

Pre-hospital Advanced Life Support (1 day £195 per person, inc lunch) this interactive course uses a mix of lectures, skills stations and simulations to deliver and practice key concepts and skills:- ALS guidelines in the prehospital environment, The role of ROLE, Management of the post ROSC

First Contact Critical Care(1 day £195 per person, inc lunch) this course will give candidates the confidence to manage the critically ill or injured patient. Including:- Assessment of the critically unwell patients, Bleeding and Shock, Early interventions, Introduction to PHEA, When HEMS can be of benefit

Elective Placements

Midlands Air Ambulance offers opportunities for undergraduate students to undertake an elective placement of four weeks. Meet our teams and see real life medicine work across our helicopter and car platforms.

Elective placements are offered purely for observational purposes.

Shortlisted students will need to provide further information including evidence of DBS, evidence of student status, a letter of recommendation from personal tutor and a university email address. 

We are now closed to applications and will be re-opening for 2025 elective opportunities in September 2024.

Applications will be open from Sept – Nov with successful candidates being notified in Jan 2026.
