Shropshire based law firm, Clarkes Solicitors has joined Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s Free Will Writing Service, helping to expand access to free Will writing support across the region.

The announcement further strengthens the charity’s network of approved solicitors and Will writers across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, the West Midlands and Worcestershire, supporting one of its key legacy giving initiatives.

The Free Will Writing Service enables supporters aged 50 and over to have a simple Will written via one of the charity’s participating solicitors or will writers, meaning people can ensure their wishes are professionally kept with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity covering the cost. While there is no obligation to leave a gift in a Will, legacy donations remain a vital source of long-term funding for the charity.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity operates three helicopters and a fleet of critical care cars across the Midlands, responding to 4,000 missions each year on average. With no government funding for its daily operations, the service relies entirely on public support.

Clarkes Solicitors, which has served local communities for more than 130 years from offices in Shrewsbury, Telford, Wellington, Newport and Shifnal, is one of Shropshire’s longest-established law firms.

Toni Laycock, Solicitor at Clarkes Solicitors, said: “One of the most common misconceptions about making a Will is that people do not need one or that it can be left

until later. In reality, having a Will in place ensures your wishes are clear and that the people and organisations you care about are provided for in the way you intend.

We are really pleased to be joining Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s Free Will Writing Service. It is a charity that is quite literally on our doorstep and one we see regularly in the skies above us, so the connection feels very real locally. It is very well known across the communities we serve and feels like a natural fit.”

Umar Mahmood, legacy and in memory manager at Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “Legacy gifts are a vital part of how we fund our emergency medical service. With no government funding, we rely entirely on public support to keep our helicopters and critical care cars operational.

“The continued growth of our Free Will Writing Service helps us reach more people across the region and encourages important conversations around Will writing and legacy giving. Each new partner strengthens the long-term sustainability of our service.”
