Dr Michael Bright

HEMS Doctor

Born and raised in Staffordshire, Michael’s career actually began as a computer scientist, before returning to university in 2009 to study medicine. He developed an early interest in prehospital emergency medicine, volunteering with St John Ambulance and the West Midlands CARE Team, which sparked a passion for delivering critical care outside the hospital setting. In 2022, he spent a year in Australia working in high-acuity prehospital and long-distance helicopter and fixed-wing retrieval medicine with CareFlight NSW and Sydney HEMS. Upon returning to the UK Michael joined Midlands Air Ambulance Charity as a Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine trainee, then completed his training in Intensive Care Medicine. Since becoming a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine in 2025, he has worked as a Transfer Consultant for the regional ACCOTS (Adult Critical Care Co-ordination and Transfer Service), supporting the safe transfer of critically ill patients around the Midlands, before taking on a combined role with ACCOTS and as a Consultant at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. When not working, Michael enjoys running, spending time with his daughter, and building LEGO.
