Herefordshire professional horse rider and former patient, Louise Harwood, is inviting local Leominster residents to a Halloween Fancy Dress Ball in support of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Louise was first cared for by Midlands Air Ambulance Charity crews back in April 1999 following a serious road traffic incident, in which she needed to be cut free from her car. 20 years later, Louise suffered two other accidents including a horse-related injury and having fallen off the back of a farm trailer, which required Midlands Air Ambulance Charity to attend and provide vital pre-hospital care at the scene.

Since 1999, Louise has been steadfast in her support for the charity and has fundraised over £17,000, with the Halloween ball becoming her next fundraising venture. Louise hopes the event will raise more for the lifesaving service and become an annual fixture in the local calendar.

The Halloween fancy dress fundraiser ball will take place at Luctonians Sports Club in Kingsland, near Leominster, on Friday 30th October 2026, from 7pm. The evening will feature a two-course sit-down meal, live music from Blue Moon and a DJ to finish.

Kate Bristow, Herefordshire fundraising executive at Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “Louise’s story is a wonderful example of the lasting impact Midlands Air Ambulance Charity can have on the lives of the people we care for. To have her continue to support us more than 25 years after her first rescue, through fundraising, volunteering and now organising her own Halloween ball, is incredibly special.

“We are so grateful to Louise for her continued support and for bringing the local community together to celebrate our lifesaving service. We hope the ball is a fantastic evening and the start of a brilliant new annual tradition.”

Louise Harwood, event organiser, added: “Every year since my first rescue by Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, I have wanted to do something to say thank you and show my appreciation for this amazing charity and the service it provides. Since then, I have organised local quizzes and auctions of promises, ran the London marathon and completed a 150 mile bike ride from Badminton to Burghley with friends.

“I owe Midlands Air Ambulance Charity more than I can say. I now volunteer locally and help at community events, and this year I have set myself the ambitious challenge of organising a Halloween fancy dress ball. My hope is that it becomes an annual event that grows bigger each year and we continue to celebrate the charity – the party no one can afford to miss!”

Tickets for the Halloween Fancy Dress Ball cost £80 per person or £75 each if you book a table of ten. To book your tickets or for further information, please contact Louise Harwood at [email protected].
