Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s training and education division, The MAAC Academy, has won the Educational Initiative of the Year award at the Farmer Rural Awards 2026 for its First Farmer on Scene training course.
The course was recognised on Thursday 22nd October at Shrewsbury Town Football Club for its dedication to equipping members of the farming community with vital lifesaving skills to respond effectively in rural medical emergencies.
Launched in October 2025, the three-hour practical course is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to manage an injured or unwell person before the arrival of emergency services. Delivered by experienced pre-hospital care professionals, it is suitable for farmers, agricultural workers, rural businesses, landowners, and anyone living or working in a rural setting.
Emily Browne, Associate Director of Education at The MAAC Academy, said: “We’re incredibly honoured to have our First Farmer on Scene course recognised by the very community it was designed to support. We understand the unique challenges faced by those living and working in rural areas, where emergency help can be further away and immediate action can make all the difference.
“As a charity that regularly responds to incidents in rural settings, we know how important those first few moments can be. This course gives people the confidence and practical skills to step in and help while emergency services are on their way, and we’re proud to see its impact recognised through this award.”
