We have nine charity shops located across the Midlands and Gloucestershire:

We're always looking for volunteers to help out in our busy shops, and can offer a flexible working environment and valuable work experience.

Whether it's a five days a week or a few hours a month, your time really could help to save lives across the Midlands.

From clothes sorting to shelf stacking, there a range of different roles you can try out, and our dedicated shop managers will support you every step of the way.

Volunteer Roles

Bric-a-Brac and Books Volunteer - As a Bric a Brac and Books volunteer you’ll be at the heart of helping stock the shop – whether you’re sorting through donations, on the shop floor helping with standards, or behind the scenes processing donations and helping with online sales alongside fellow team members.

Clothing and Accessories Volunteer  - As a Clothing and accessories volunteer you’ll be at the heart of helping stock the shop – whether you’re sorting through donations, on the shop floor helping with standards, or behind the scenes processing donations and helping with online sales alongside fellow team members.  This is a flexible retail assistant role where you can try different roles throughout the shop until you find your role, such as helping with online sales by valuing items, getting creative with shop displays or getting trained to serve customers on the till, to name but a few roles.

Shop Floor Volunteer - Do you always have a welcoming smile on your face and love getting in to conversations?

Why not get to know the people from your community with this versatile volunteering role. Gain valuable experience in customer service adding value to your CV.

Our sales assistant volunteers are the first point of contact for customers when they enter our shops. As a sales assistant volunteer you will greet customers, help them find the items they’re looking for and answer their questions where you can. With support from the shop team, your invaluable efforts at keeping the sales floor well stocked and organised will help us make a mission possible by raising as much as we can to fund lifesaving research.

You will be serving customers, helping to promote our stock and awareness campaigns and encouraging every donor to become part of our Gift Aid scheme. If you want to get to know the community around you this is a perfect way to integrate yourself into your local area and become a part of our team.

Furniture and Electrical Volunteer -  If you want to gain new skills and rebuild your confidence, nothing beats our charity shops. As a Furniture and Electrical volunteer you’ll be at the heart of helping stock the shop – whether you’re moving furniture because it is sold or to display it, on the shop floor helping with standards, testing and valuing electronics or behind the scenes processing collections and deliveries. Helping coordinate our collections and delivery service.

PAT Testing electricals and valuing to prepare for sale (full training will be given)

Sort Room Volunteer  -  Whether you’re a keen rummager, an organised operator or love the look of a freshly ironed shirt we have a role for you. If you like things to be neat and tidy then we need your help to sort the donations we receive into their different categories. If you’re a lover of the iron then master the mighty steamer and watch those creases and wrinkles disappear.

Laugh and catch up with other volunteers over the sort room table or over a cup of tea and biscuit at break time. At the end of the day go home feeling satisfied and proud that you have helped to raise vital funds for Midlands Air Ambulance. Whether you’re a lover of vintage clothing, stunning jewellery or beautiful bric-a-brac or fancy the company of other friendly volunteers the sort room is the place to be. Perfect for enhancing your CV and skills set we also offer our volunteers the choice to do free NVQ qualifications* England shops onlysubject to eligibility.

Online Volunteer (Walsall shop only)  -  This is an online assistant role where you can support the charity in maximising income from additional online avenues, based within out charity shop in Walsall. We operate a central online department to list items provided from our charity shops on various online websites, packing and posting and feeding back to the shops how well their items sold online!

Shop volunteer case study

Melanie Smith started as a volunteer in the West Bromwich charity shop in 2015. When the opening for assistant manager of the shop came up in 2017, Mel applied and was successful.

The skills and experience she developed whilst volunteering, impressed the charity's head of retail and she now manages a team of 13 volunteers alongside the charity shop manager.

Mel says: “I feel ecstatic and privileged to have been given this position.”
