Melanie Smith started as a volunteer in the West Bromwich charity shop in 2015. When the opening for assistant manager of the shop came up in 2017, Mel applied and was successful.

The skills and experience she developed whilst volunteering, impressed the charity's head of retail and she now manages a team of 13 volunteers alongside the charity shop manager.

Mel says: “I feel ecstatic and privileged to have been given this position.”

Bradley McDonald initially joined MAAC's Wellington shop as a volunteer, and is now their assistant manager.

Throughout his time volunteering, Bradley showed a keen interest in retail management, and volunteering with the charity boosted his skill-set and his CV.

Alison Hill, donor support and volunteer manager for MAAC said: “We were delighted to welcome Bradley as a full-time member of the team. His story shows that volunteering allows people to learn new skills while also helping a charity. It can also be a stepping stone to finding permanent employment.”
