Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is the lifesaving emergency air service covering Staffordshire and its communities. Our highly trained critical care paramedics, doctors, and pilots provide rapid-response medical intervention to major trauma and medical emergencies across the county, before conveying them to hospitals across Staffordshire including Stoke University Hospital.
In the past year, our air ambulance has responded to over 915 missions in Staffordshire.
Our helicopter and critical care car teams are deployed daily to attend serious incidents, including road traffic collisions, cardiac arrests, and medical emergencies.
With major roads like the M6, A50, and A34, our team regularly supports West Midlands Ambulance Service in responding to high-impact accidents.
Our air ambulance team can reach anywhere in Staffordshire within ten minutes, ensuring the fastest possible response to life-threatening emergencies.
Every mission flown by our crew is entirely funded by charitable donations and makes a difference to lives across the region.
Highway Rescue: Our team recently provided pre-hospital care to multiple casualties in a serious collision on the M6, stabilising patients before rapid transport to hospital.
Emergency Response in Stoke-on-Trent: Our critical care paramedics provided lifesaving intervention to a cardiac arrest patient in the city, supporting West Midlands Ambulance Service.
Remote Rescue: Our air ambulance responded to a serious fall in Cannock Chase, highlighting the importance of rapid response in Staffordshire’s rural areas.
We work closely with local emergency services, hospitals, and trauma centres to ensure every patient receives expert medical care as quickly as possible. Our collaboration goes beyond the medical frontline.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity regularly partners with West Midlands Ambulance Service, as well as local fire and rescue services to ensure a coordinated response to complex incidents. In more remote parts of the county, we may also assist alongside Mountain Rescue teams when specialist access or support is required.
This joined-up approach helps ensure patients receive the right care, at the right time, even in the most challenging environments.
Depending on the patient’s condition and location, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity either flies patients directly or works with local ambulance services to ensure they are transferred quickly by road. In Staffordshire, we regularly coordinate with:
These partnerships help ensure that every patient receives the right level of care at the right place, without delay.
One of the unique advantages of our air ambulance service is the ability to land in a wide variety of locations — from busy city centres to the most remote parts of the countryside. This flexibility ensures that our crew can reach patients wherever they are, without delay.
We frequently attend incidents in areas such as Cannock Chase, the Peak District fringes, and rural parts of Staffordshire, where access by road can be challenging. In more urban environments like Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford, our critical care cars complement our helicopter service, enabling rapid on-scene intervention when air access isn’t required or practical.
In a county with both urban and rural landscapes, response times are critical. Our helicopter and critical care cars work together to reach patients quickly, regardless of terrain or road congestion.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is the primary provider of emergency air ambulance services in Stoke-on-Trent and across Staffordshire. While some may refer to our operations as ‘Stoke Air Ambulance’, we operate as a wider regional service covering six counties across the Midlands.
To clarify, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is not affiliated with or part of the Helicopter Emergency Services (HESE). Our missions are funded entirely by public donations and corporate partnerships, ensuring we can continue to provide lifesaving care across Staffordshire and beyond.
As a charity-funded service, we rely entirely on public donations to keep our helicopters flying. Every mission costs £2,950, and your support makes a real difference.
