Midlands Air Ambulance Charity provides emergency pre-hospital critical care across the West Midlands region. From the urban centres of Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Coventry to surrounding areas, our helicopters and critical care cars deliver expert treatment when time is of the essence.
• MAAC attends hundreds of incidents every year across the West Midlands.
• We respond to serious injuries, cardiac arrests, medical emergencies and major trauma.
• High population density and traffic congestion make rapid access to specialist care vital.
Our helicopters can land in city parks, school fields and other urban spaces to reach patients faster than traditional ambulance routes.
Every mission flown by our crew is entirely funded by charitable donations and makes a difference to lives across the region.
Road collision in Birmingham: A seriously injured motorcyclist received advanced trauma care and was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Emergency Response in Coventry City Centre: Incident in Coventry city centre: Our crew supported multiple casualties at a complex urban scene.
Cardiac arrest in Wolverhampton: A critical care paramedic arrived within minutes and delivered life-saving treatment at the scene.
We operate in close partnership with West Midlands Ambulance Service, West Midlands Fire Service, and local police forces. In built-up areas, our critical care cars often provide the fastest access to advanced treatment while our aircrew remain on standby for major or complex incidents.
Despite the challenges of busy city streets and traffic, our crews regularly access locations by helicopter thanks to urban landing sites. In cities like Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Coventry, we land in public green spaces and respond rapidly on foot when required.
Depending on the patient’s needs, we regularly fly or coordinate transfer to:
These partnerships help ensure that every patient receives the right level of care at the right place, without delay.
With some of the UK’s busiest roads and most densely populated cities, the West Midlands presents unique challenges for emergency response. Our ability to bypass congestion and deliver hospital-level care at the scene can make a lifesaving difference.
As a charity-funded service, we rely entirely on public donations to keep our helicopters flying. Every mission costs £2,950, and your support makes a real difference.
