Emergency First Aid At Work - Tatenhill

This course is designed for people who want to receive training in emergency first aid.

This course is designed for people who want to receive training in emergency first aid. The course covers first aid protocols for adult casualties only. This course is particularly well-suited for low-risk sectors such as offices and shops. The training encompasses a wide range of emergency scenarios, ensuring that, upon completion, you will possess the knowledge, skills, and confidence to administer First Aid.

Lunch is included in the ticket price.

What does Emergency first aid at work cover?

This 1-day course ensures learners can understand, and where relevant, apply the following skills when helping an adult in the workplace.

Learners will develop the skills and confidence to:

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider

  • Understand what First Aid is and the aims of First Aid
  • Understand the responsibilities of the Employer and first Aider and the need to establish consent
  • Describe the safe use of available equipment in a workplace e.g. a First Aid Kit
  • Understand the importance of preventing cross-infection to yourself and others
  • Understand the need for recording incidents and actions

Assess the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

  • Describe and demonstrate how to assess a scene including how and when to call for emergency help
  • Understand and demonstrate The Primary Survey (DR ABC)

Administer First Aid to a casualty who is unconscious and not breathing normally

  • Understand how and when to administer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - and how to safely use an AED
  • Identify how and when to call for help and when CPR should be stopped
  • Demonstrate, using a manikin, how to administer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use an AED correctly
  • Identify any difficulties that may arise during resuscitation

Administer First Aid to a casualty who is conscious or unconscious and breathing normally

  • Describe and conduct a Secondary Survey
  • Describe and demonstrate when and how to place a casualty into the Recovery Position
  • Demonstrate ongoing checks of the casualty's breathing while they are in the Recovery Position

Administer First Aid to a casualty who is choking

  • Describe the signs of a partially obstructed/completely blocked airway
  • Demonstrate the first aid response to a casualty who is choking (using a training device or manikin)

Administer First Aid to a casualty who is experiencing a seizure

  • Recognise a casualty who is experiencing a seizure
  • Describe how to manage and treat a casualty who is experiencing a seizure

Administer First Aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding

  • Identify the different types of bleeding and the treatment that should be given for each
  • Describe and demonstrate the treatment for life-threatening bleeding including wound packing
  • Describe and demonstrate how to apply a tourniquet

Be able to provide appropriate First Aid for minor injuries such as:

  • Small cuts, grazes and bruises
  • Splinters
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Breaks, sprains, dislocations

Administer First Aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock

  • Describe the signs and symptoms of shock
  • Describe how to manage and treat a casualty who is suffering from shock
