Midlands Air Ambulance Charity
Our Recognition Awards and Charity Ball took place on Friday, at The Vox Conference Centre in Resorts World in Birmingham.
As well as enjoying a fabulous evening of entertainment, we recognised some of the aircrew, volunteers, fundraisers and supporters who went above and beyond for the charity over the last 12 months.
The ceremony was hosted by actor and TV personality Will Mellor, and radio presenter Ed James. A host of famous faces including Paul Chuckle and Sally Bee presented the awards before a live auction to raise further funds for the charity.
The event will help to fund 34 lifesaving air ambulance missions, and 31 critical care car missions.

SKYCHAMPS AWARD
WINNER: Dexter Roberts

Six-year-old Dexter Roberts, from Rowley Regis in the West Midlands, has been fundraising for MAAC for two years.
Dexter became aware of the charity when his grandad had a fall at home with Dexter present, and required urgent medical care from MAAC. Unfortunately, his grandad later passed away in hospital, but the family were grateful they had chance to say their goodbyes.
Dexter has attended numerous MAAC events, including a sponsored walk, and has raised an amazing £2,009!
VOLUNTEER AWARD
WINNERS: Adam Lote and Jamie Bunting

Adam Lote and Jamie Bunting from Bromsgrove attend several events every year and have collectively clocked up over 60 hours of volunteering.
Adam works as a West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic and Jamie is a full time student at university, also volunteering as a response special constable for around 50 hours every month.
CREW AWARD
WINNER: Aidan Brown

Aidan Brown is one of MAAC’s critical care paramedics, predominantly based at the RAF Cosford airbase. Aidan goes above and beyond in his role, to help train and develop his colleagues.
Aidan is also a great support to the charity, taking on fundraising challenges and volunteering at events.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AWARD

EBC Group has been one of MAAC’s corporate partners since 2013, raising over £35,000.
They have sponsored several events including the Corporate Golf Day and Charity Ball, and organised their own Race Day’s to raise funds.
Their employees have hosted fundraisers in the office and taken part in challenges such as Bear Grylls Survival Weekend and the longest zipwire, and even volunteered in our charity shops.
CEO, Richard Lane, has lead the way with much of their fundraising and he took part in the Amazon Challenge.
FUNDRAISER AWARD
WINNERS: Sheila and Keith Chase

Sheila and Keith Chase have been raising funds for MAAC for over 15 years, by decorating their house with Christmas lights. They host a switch on event on the 1st December where they invite people along and offer refreshments to raise funds for MAAC.
They have raised over £55,000.
COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING AWARD
WINNER: Housing 21

The Housing 21 – Goldfield Court living facility has been raising funds and collecting pre-loved items for our charity shops for four years.
We collect donations from them several times a year, including numerous items of furniture and over 500 bags of clothing. They have generated over £10,000 for the charity.
SPECIAL INCIDENT AWARD
WINNERS: MAAC AIRCREW

In March of this year, the aircrew were called to reports of a missing child who may have fallen into water.
Dr Ryan O’Leary, and CCPs Steve Mason, Jack Lewis and trainee CCP Bekkie Chappell responded to the incident, and Dr Malcolm Russell attended in his capacity as a volunteer doctor to a youngster who was pulled from the water after being submerged for nearly half an hour.
The crews on scene included MAAC, West Midlands Ambulance Service, the Police and Fire Service. After performing CPR for over an hour and a half, the child was still in a critical condition, but stable enough to be airlifted to hospital.
The crew are being acknowledged for the clinical care they delivered to the young child, which resulted in them miraculously making a full recovery.

The Biker Down courses were established in West Mercia in 2015 to train people on how to deliver first aid to bikers at the scene of an accident.
Organised by several organisations including West Mercia Police, the Fire Service, West Midlands Ambulance Service, I AM Road Smart and Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
