Midlands Air Ambulance Charity
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s first ever Open Day at Tatenhill Airfield was a roaring success, raising over £11,500 for the lifesaving charity.
Sunday 15th July saw the Staffordshire based airfield inundated with visitors, with over 4,000 people attending the free event to find out more about the charity, exploring the helicopters with the aircrew, observing demonstrations of lifesaving treatment and getting behind the scenes of the service.
Tatenhill’s resident helicopter, with the call sign G-HWAA, was joined by Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s new, larger H145 helicopter, G-RMAA, which is usually based at the RAF Cosford airbase, and spare helicopter G-EMAA, to ensure operations weren’t affected as a result of the event.
Activities kept families occupied and entertained throughout the day, including the helipod, new simulator experience, fairground rides, merchandise stalls, refreshments, and tombola. Representatives from other emergency services including fire, ambulance, police and blood bikes also attended to demonstrate their contribution to keeping communities safe in Staffordshire.
Ian Jones, critical care paramedic and aircrew supervisor at the Tatenhill airbase, said: “We’re so pleased and impressed that the first Tatenhill airbase Open Day was a huge success. We could never have predicted that so many people would come along to find out about our incredible service.
“Being the first Open Day at Tatenhill, we weren’t sure what to expect, so to raise enough money to fund over four lifesaving missions is absolutely fantastic. A big thanks to everyone who came along during the day and contributed to the triumphant event.”
