Fundraisers Take On The Amazon Rainforest For MAAC

Thursday 9th May 2019

Eleven adventurous fundraisers are about to embark on a challenge in one of the world’s toughest environments, the Amazon rainforest, to raise a record sum for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

The intrepid twelve includes a number of supportive corporate partners; TH Baker, Paycare and the Phoenix Group, as well as charity staff and volunteers, and three members of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s aircrew. They are aiming to raise £60,000 towards future air ambulance missions.

The team will be spending five days in the Amazon, learning to catch their own food, make camp and undertake a number of gruelling challenges all in aid of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. Except for an expedition guide, they will be completely isolated from the outside world.

They have collectively raised over £46,000 towards their total. With just 11 days to go until the team departs (18th May), they are hoping to raise further funds with the public’s support.

Ryan James, critical care paramedic for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, speaks on behalf of the group: “This is set to be an extreme week of activities and survival in the Amazon and we have all been training hard to deal with the heat, humidity and conditions that we’ll be facing in the rainforest. If our local communities and businesses can support us with our biggest fundraiser to date, please visit our fundraising page and donate what you can.”

Emma Gray, fundraising and marketing director for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, added: “A big thank you goes to our corporate partners, staff, volunteers and critical care paramedics who are taking on this once in a lifetime challenge for our charity. By raising much needed funds with the public’s support, they are helping to make a real difference to our provision of vitally important pre-hospital care across the Midlands.”
