Air Ambulance Week - Monday 6th - Sunday 12th September 2021
Air Ambulance Week 2021, is taking off across the UK from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th September, raising awareness of the lifesaving work of air ambulance charities across the UK, like Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, which covers Gloucestershire.
During the national awareness week, organised by Air Ambulances UK, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity will also be joining other air ambulance charities around the country in a campaign called Every Second Counts and Every Penny Matters.
The campaign highlights how air ambulance charities rapidly deliver advanced, lifesaving pre-hospital emergency care directly to some of the most seriously ill and injured patients across the UK. Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is one of 21 air ambulance operators that brings the hospital to the patient when every second counts towards survival.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity attends an average of 13 lifesaving missions a day across the Midlands, forming an important part of the emergency service and healthcare provision across Gloucestershire and supporting the NHS.
Each air ambulance mission costs, on average, around £2,500 and each of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s critical care car missions costs an average of £224. All of the charity’s daily lifesaving missions are funded by public donations, meaning every penny matters.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is calling on people across Gloucestershire to support the charity during Air Ambulance Week to ensure it can continue to save the lives of people like Emily Pringle, who was travelling to work along the A40 in Cheltenham, when her car was involved in a high-speed head-on collision, causing her vehicle to spin and knocking her unconscious.
Emergency services rapidly arrived on scene, including the helicopter from the Strensham airbase with a critical care paramedic and doctor on-board.

Emily explains: “Without the Midlands Air Ambulance team, I would not be here to see my little girl grow up. The treatment and speed of transfer to the trauma unit were all made possible by them. I am eternally grateful, as are my family and friends. Midlands Air Ambulance Charity will always be close to mine and my family’s hearts.”

“Following the success of our Air30 Rapid Response Raffle, earlier this year, which funded 120 lifesaving missions, we are pleased to be supporting Air Ambulances UK’s Every Second Counts prize draw, which will see our service and the wider air ambulance community supported for future lifesaving missions.”

Air Ambulance Week Fact Finder: · There are 21 individual air ambulance charities across the UK, which provide pre-hospital emergency care to the NHS and form an important part of the UK’s frontline emergency services. · There are 37 air ambulance helicopters operated across the 21 individual air ambulance charities. · Air ambulance charities collectively make an average of over 80 lifesaving missions every day – that’s over 30,000 a year. · The average cost of an air ambulance mission attended by Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is £2,500.
