Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is set to unveil Mission Critical, a powerful new public exhibition showcasing thought‑provoking stories from former patients, the charity’s critical care crews, and the dedicated supporters who help keep its lifesaving service flying.
The exhibition will officially launch in Birmingham city centre’s Chamberlain Square on Friday 10th April 2026.
Created to mark the charity’s 35th anniversary, Mission Critical presents a compelling photographic journey from the organisation’s first mission in 1991 to the highly advanced, pre-hospital critical care service it provides today. Through striking imagery and deeply personal testimonies, the exhibition highlights how Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s clinical capabilities, innovation, and operational excellence have evolved over more than three decades. Contributors include individuals whose lives and work have shaped the charity’s legacy.
The outdoor exhibition will be open to the public in Chamberlain Square until 7pm on Sunday 12th April, before touring several of the charity’s flagship events throughout the anniversary year.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity hopes the exhibition will shine a spotlight on the vital, lifesaving service it delivers across the region. Each mission is carried out by a highly skilled clinical crew comprising of advanced pre-hospital emergency medicine doctors and critical care paramedics, equipped with full life-support medical equipment to deliver hospital-level care at the scene of an incident.
Since its first mission in May 1991, the charity has grown into one of the UK’s busiest and most established air ambulance operators. Its continued evolution reflects a steadfast commitment to innovation, clinical excellence, and ensuring the highest standard of emergency care when it matters most.
Emma Gray, Chief Operating Officer for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “As we mark 35 years of lifesaving service, we wanted to capture the true impact of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity in a way that honours everyone connected to our organisation. Mission Critical reflects the courage of our former patients and the unwavering dedication of our critical care teams who save lives every day.
“This exhibition not only celebrates the evolution of our pre-hospital emergency service since 1991, but also highlights the increasing demand and complexity of the missions we attend across the region. Our service is needed now more than ever.
“We are incredibly grateful to every former patient who has generously shared their story, to our crew whose professionalism underpins every mission, and to all our supporters who ensure our lifesaving work can continue.”
