Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has been named as a finalist for a national Charity Film Award alongside other charitable causes. The charity’s patient-focused film, produced in collaboration with Shrewsbury-based video animation and production company, 7video, is now through to the final round following a public vote.
The six-minute film focuses on the story of Nigel Davis from Tipton in the West Midlands, a former patient of the service who suffered an out of hospital cardiac arrest at his home. The film premiered for the first time publicly at Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s 2023 Recognition Awards and Charity Ball to highlight the difference that the lifesaving service makes at incident scenes with its clinicians’ advanced skillset and raise awareness of the importance of bystander support before emergency services arrive on scene.
After progressing from the nomination stage to the first round of public voting, keen supporters of the lifesaving organisation kindly voted online and helped secure Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s place as a finalist in the Charity Film Award category for Best Longform Film. The next stage involves a judging panel who will view all the films and decide on a winner for each of the categories.
There is also a secondary public vote opening on Wednesday 14th February, results of which will determine the winner of a People’s Choice Charity Film of the Year award. Helen Stevens, head of marketing and communications for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “We are beyond grateful to Nigel and his family for allowing us to tell his story in such an open way. We are thankful to the team at 7video for their support on this project and for allowing us to be able to tell Nigel’s story with such sensitivity.
“We hope the communities in the counties we serve get behind us and vote for Nigel’s Story which was produced to raise awareness of not only the advanced, hospital-level equipment and enhanced drugs our clinicians bring to scene, but also the vital difference bystander support can make to a patient’s outcome.”
Peter Sims, director of 7video, added: “It is an honour to work with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and to see first-hand the incredible work they do.
“It was even more of a privilege to meet Nigel and his family and I hope they and their story has as much of an impact on the public and judging panel as it did on me.”
The winning films will be announced at a gala ceremony at the ODEON Luxe in Leicester Square, London, on Wednesday 20th March 2024.
