Friday 1st July 2022

Lifesaving crews at Midlands Air Ambulance Charity are getting ready to give people behind-the-scenes access to their Tatenhill Airbase, in Staffordshire, as the charity’s popular Open Day event returns to the region.

The free-to-attend day out takes place on Sunday 17th July from 10am to 4pm. Visitors will have the chance to explore helicopters with the aircrew, observe demonstrations of lifesaving treatment, get behind the scenes of the service and find out more about Midlands Air Ambulance Charity's valuable work across the region.

Families will be kept entertained throughout the day with the charity’s helipod, a decommissioned helicopter, just like Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s RAF Cosford aircraft, fairground rides, merchandise stalls, refreshments and tombola.

Representatives from other emergency services including fire, ambulance, police and blood bikes will also be in attendance demonstrating their contribution to keeping communities safe across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and the wider Midlands region.

The charity is also asking for people to bring along donations of unwanted, pre-loved goods on the day that can then be sold on in one of its six high street shops, one of which is in nearby Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Emma Wood, head of fundraising and marketing for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: "This is the first time we've been able to welcome people back to our annual open days since 2019, having held our last Tatenhill Airbase open day online, so we're determined to make it an event to remember!

"Whether you're keen to learn more about our lifesaving work across the region and get up close and personal with one of our helicopters, or just want a good old-fashioned day out, it promises to be a great event for the whole family. The open day is free to attend but any money that visitors donate on the day will help make our lifesaving missions possible."
