Midlands Air Ambulance Charity provides vital emergency pre-hospital care across Gloucestershire. In 2024 alone, our crew attended 312 lifesaving missions across the county. Our highly skilled pilots, critical care paramedics, and doctors are ready to respond to life-threatening incidents – from the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean to busy urban centres like Cheltenham and Gloucester.>
• Each year, our air ambulance attends hundreds of serious incidents across Gloucestershire.
• Our aircraft and critical care cars are deployed to major trauma, medical emergencies and complex incidents in both rural and built-up areas.
• Gloucestershire’s busy road network, including the M5, A417 and A40, sees frequent serious collisions that require an urgent medical response.
Our air ambulances can reach the furthest corners of Gloucestershire in minutes, enabling our teams to deliver critical care before a patient reaches hospital..
Our team regularly responds to a wide range of emergency incidents across Gloucestershire, delivering time-critical treatment when every second counts.
Road Traffic Collision on the M50: Our crew attended a serious incident involving a car and lorry on the westbound carriageway near Junctions 2 and 3. The patient received advanced trauma care at the roadside before being transferred to hospital.
Cycling Accident in the Forest of Dean: A cyclist sustained significant injuries while riding in the forest. Our aircrew provided critical care on scene and assisted with the patient’s onward journey to hospital. The individual later credited the crew with saving his life.
Rural Rescue in the Cotswolds: Our helicopter responded to a medical emergency in a remote location, where swift access by land was not possible. The patient was stabilised and airlifted to a regional trauma centre for further treatment.
We work in close partnership with other emergency services to ensure that patients receive the most appropriate care as quickly as possible.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity collaborates with the South West Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, as well as local fire and rescue services, to deliver a coordinated emergency response.
This multi-agency approach helps ensure patients get the right support, regardless of the location or nature of the emergency.
Our helicopters can land in a wide range of environments — from open countryside to public green spaces in busy towns — which enables us to bring expert medical care directly to patients wherever they are.
We frequently attend incidents across areas like the Cotswolds, Forest of Dean, and Severn Valley, where rural terrain can present challenges for ground crews. In urban centres such as Cheltenham, Gloucester, and Cirencester, our critical care cars work alongside ambulance crews to provide rapid, enhanced care when air access is not required.
Gloucestershire’s geography presents unique challenges for emergency response, with a combination of rural villages, hilly terrain and busy arterial roads like the M5 and A417. In many cases, ambulance access alone isn’t fast enough. That’s why our air ambulance and critical care car teams are essential — ensuring patients receive hospital-level care at the scene, when every minute matters.
Our service is not government or NHS funded. Every mission is made possible through donations from the public, local communities and businesses.
